Blink-182 made pop-punk the soundtrack of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their songs were fast, funny and catchy, but under the jokes were real stories about growing up, heartbreak and loneliness. After splits, reunions and lineup changes, the classic trio of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker reunited in 2022 and have been playing to some of the biggest crowds of their career.
| Formed | 1992, Poway, California (San Diego area) |
| Classic lineup | Mark Hoppus (bass, vocals), Tom DeLonge (guitar, vocals), Travis Barker (drums) |
| Other members | Scott Raynor (drums, 1992β1998), Matt Skiba (guitar, vocals, 2015β2022) |
| Genres | Pop-punk, punk rock, alternative rock |
| Breakthrough | Enema of the State (1999) |
DeLonge and Hoppus met in the San Diego suburbs in 1992 and started the band with drummer Scott Raynor. Early releases, Cheshire Cat (1995) and Dude Ranch (1997), built a following through skate videos, constant touring and the Warped Tour. “Dammit” from Dude Ranch became their first radio hit. Travis Barker joined in 1998.
The breakthrough, selling millions worldwide. “What’s My Age Again?,” “All the Small Things” and “Adam’s Song” made them MTV fixtures.
A U.S. No. 1 album, with “The Rock Show,” “First Date” and “Stay Together for the Kids.”
A darker, more experimental record that many fans consider their best. “I Miss You” and “Feeling This” are highlights. The band went on hiatus in 2005.
The trio reunited for Neighborhoods (2011). DeLonge then left, and Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba joined for California (2016) and Nine (2019). DeLonge returned in 2022, and the classic lineup released One More Time… (2023), a heartfelt album shaped by Hoppus’s recovery from cancer.
Hoppus and DeLonge’s trade-off vocals give the band its personality, while Barker is one of the most celebrated drummers in modern rock. DeLonge also founded Angels & Airwaves, and Barker has collaborated widely across rock and hip-hop.
Blink-182 influenced nearly every pop-punk band that followed and, more recently, a new generation of artists blending punk with pop and hip-hop. Our recap of the 2025 Missionary Impossible tour shows how strong their live draw remains.
