The synthesizer is alive and well
Synth-pop exploded in the early 1980s, but it never went away. Today’s artists draw on new wave, post-punk, darkwave, synthwave and indie electronic music, and the line from Depeche Mode and New Order to Nation of Language, CHVRCHES and Future Islands is easy to hear. Our guide to new wave vs. alternative rock explains how that connection formed.
For the heavier side of electronic alternative, see the Electronic Rock Top 20.
